AI-Generated Content

AI tools are increasingly used in music creation, from production assistance to artwork generation. Streaming platforms require transparency about AI involvement, and LabelGrid makes it easy to disclose this on every release.

AI can be a powerful creative tool. The following uses are generally accepted across platforms:

  • AI-assisted composition - You write the song, AI helps with arrangement or production
  • AI as a production tool - Using AI for mixing, mastering, stem separation, or audio enhancement
  • AI-generated elements with human performance - Combining AI-produced backing tracks with your own vocals or instruments
  • Original AI-generated voices - Synthetic voices that are original creations (not imitating real people)
  • AI-generated artwork - Original AI-created cover art (not copying existing artwork or artists’ styles without permission)

The following will be rejected by platforms and may result in takedowns:

  • AI voices imitating real artists - Creating vocals that sound like a specific real artist without their permission
  • Deepfake vocals - Using AI to clone an existing artist’s voice
  • Mass-produced AI content - Bulk-generating tracks designed to artificially inflate streaming numbers
  • Sound-alikes intended to impersonate - Content designed to trick listeners into thinking it’s by a real artist
  • AI-generated content that infringes copyright - Using AI to reproduce copyrighted material

The key principle: AI is a tool, not a shortcut around copyright or artist rights. Use it creatively and honestly.

How to Configure AI Disclosure in LabelGrid

Section titled “How to Configure AI Disclosure in LabelGrid”

LabelGrid has three AI disclosure fields — one for your artwork, one for your audio, and one for your composition. All are required on every release.

This is set at the release level on the Artwork tab.

  1. Go to your release and click the Artwork tab
  2. Find the AI disclosure field below the artwork upload
  3. Select the appropriate option

This is set at the track level on the Master tab and covers the sound recording — vocals, instruments, beats, mixing, and mastering.

  1. Open the track editor for your track
  2. Go to the Master tab
  3. Find the Generative AI Disclosure field
  4. Select the appropriate option:
OptionWhen to use
No generative AI was used in creating this trackNo AI tools were involved in the audio production
Minor AI assistance only (mastering, synth sounds, production tools)AI helped with production but didn’t generate the core audio
AI generated material portions of this track (e.g. vocals, melodies, beats)Significant parts of the audio were AI-generated
This track was entirely generated with AIAI was the primary creative force behind the audio

This is set at the track level on the Master tab, directly below the Generative AI Disclosure. It covers the composition and lyrics — melody, harmony, song structure, and written words.

  1. Open the track editor for your track
  2. Go to the Master tab
  3. Find the Composition AI Disclosure field
  4. Select the appropriate option:
OptionWhen to use
No generative AI was used in creating the composition or lyricsYou wrote the song and lyrics without AI involvement
Minor AI assistance only (brainstorming, rhyme suggestions)AI helped with ideas but you wrote the composition
AI generated material portions of the composition or lyricsSignificant parts of the melody, structure, or lyrics were AI-generated
The composition or lyrics were entirely generated with AIAI was the primary creative force behind the composition

Be honest. Platforms may verify AI disclosure claims. Misrepresenting AI usage can lead to takedowns or account issues.

Each streaming platform has its own policies on AI-generated content. LabelGrid’s disclosure fields are designed to meet the requirements across all major platforms.

Apple Music introduced AI Transparency Tags in March 2026 covering four categories: Artwork, Track, Composition, and Music Video. These tags map directly to LabelGrid’s disclosure fields — when you set your AI disclosure in LabelGrid, this information is sent to Apple Music automatically. Currently elective, Apple plans to make these tags mandatory for new content.

Spotify supports the DDEX industry standard for AI disclosures in music credits. AI-assisted music is accepted with proper disclosure. Content that impersonates another artist’s voice — whether through AI cloning or other methods — is prohibited and will be removed.

YouTube requires creators to disclose when realistic content is made with altered or synthetic media. Their Content ID system can detect AI-generated singing voices. AI vocals that mimic a real artist’s voice can be flagged and removed at the artist’s request.

TikTok requires labeling all AI-generated realistic audio and video content. AI music covers must include clear disclosure (e.g., “[artist] AI cover”). Using AI to create vocals that falsely impersonate a real artist is prohibited.

Deezer uses automated AI detection technology to identify and tag AI-generated content, which can affect visibility and payouts. Genuine AI-assisted creative works are welcome with proper transparency.

Set your AI disclosure correctly before submitting your release. Changing AI disclosure after distribution triggers a re-review of your release, which may temporarily affect its availability on platforms.

If AI played any role in your creative process, it’s better to select “Some parts were created with generative AI” rather than “No generative AI was used.” Over-disclosure is always safer than under-disclosure.

If AI played a significant role in your release, keep records of:

  • Which AI tools you used
  • What human creative contributions were made
  • Any permissions for AI-generated elements

This documentation may be requested during platform review.

”I used AI mastering - does that count?”

Section titled “”I used AI mastering - does that count?””

If you used an AI-powered mastering service (like LANDR or similar), select “Minor AI assistance only” for audio. These services use AI to process and enhance your audio. Your composition disclosure would remain “No generative AI” since AI wasn’t involved in writing the song.

”My artwork was AI-generated but I edited it significantly”

Section titled “”My artwork was AI-generated but I edited it significantly””

Select the AI-assisted option for artwork. The AI generated the base, even if you made substantial edits.

”I used ChatGPT to help write lyrics but composed the melody myself”

Section titled “”I used ChatGPT to help write lyrics but composed the melody myself””

Select “No generative AI” for audio (the sound recording). For composition, select “Minor AI assistance only” or “AI generated material portions” depending on how much of the final lyrics came from AI.

”I sampled an AI-generated beat but performed everything else”

Section titled “”I sampled an AI-generated beat but performed everything else””

Select “AI generated material portions” for audio. Any AI-generated element in the final track should be disclosed. If you wrote the song yourself, your composition disclosure can be “No generative AI."

"Will disclosing AI usage hurt my chances of being playlisted?”

Section titled “"Will disclosing AI usage hurt my chances of being playlisted?””

No. Honest disclosure does not negatively impact playlist consideration. What matters is the quality of your music and whether it meets the platform’s content standards.

”Can I use AI to create cover art in the style of a famous artist?”

Section titled “”Can I use AI to create cover art in the style of a famous artist?””

Be cautious. While AI-generated artwork is allowed, creating art that closely imitates a specific living artist’s style could raise legal and ethical concerns. Original AI artwork is safer.
